We’re excited to announce that our ‘French Books for Congo Kids’ book drive has been a tremendous success, thanks to the overwhelming support of schools across Western New York! With your generosity, we collected over 100 books and successfully shipped them to GUAOA Orphanage in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. When the children opened the box, their faces lit up, thrilled to explore the world within the pages of these books.
A special thank you goes to Sheri Green, French teacher at Hamburg Central Schools, and her dedicated students, who added a personal touch to the donation. They created “Je Suis” booklets (pictured below), each one sharing fun facts and personal stories. The children at the orphanage loved reading these personalized messages, feeling a connection with new friends from across the globe.
Reading is more than just a skill; it’s a gateway to knowledge, imagination, and possibility. These books will help the children in Goma strengthen their language abilities, dream bigger, and explore worlds beyond their own, nurturing hope for the future.
A New Vision: A Cozy Library Space
Our next goal is to create a dedicated reading nook at the orphanage, where the children can store, organize, and cherish their new books. This space will be a welcoming retreat where they can read together, share stories, and discover a love for learning. Currently, the orphanage has a room available, but it needs renovations to become a functional library. For just $2,000, we can transform this space by finishing the walls, adding a roof, painting, and installing bookshelves.
Join Us in Building Their Library!
Please consider contributing to this project and helping us provide a warm, inspiring place for these children to read and grow. Every donation brings us closer to our goal of a lasting, joyful library for the children at GUAOA Orphanage.
To support this cause, please donate at www.childadvancement.org/support-us or via Venmo @intlChildAdvancement. Together, let’s give them the gift of reading and a space they can call their library.
Many thanks to all participating schools!!
